An Introduction to this “Blog”

Preface: I’m not going to hit every issue, topic, or subject; I’m going to miss things both here in this introduction and also on the “About” page. So I’m just saying before getting started: this is not exhaustive, but I do hope that it is introductory.

The purpose of this blog is simple: to point people to the word of God (the Bible, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) in order to edify/build up the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-16) by providing Biblical exegesis, translations, observations, meditations, instruction, explanations, and exhortations of the Word of God—so that we the Church would love from a clean heart and a good conscience and an unhypocritical faith (1 Timothy 1:5)—that we would please our Lord in all respects (Col 1:9-10). My intention is not to attempt to change the culture (only Christ can and will do that—Psalm 2, 72, Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45; 7:13-14, 27) or to create something new (God’s Word is sufficient—Isaiah 55:10-11, 2 Peter 1:3). My intention is to contend earnestly for the faith once for all handed down to the saints (Jude 3) to the obedience, honor, and praise of God.

It is my intention to build my life on Jesus’ words (Mt 7:24-27). When we come to the Word of God, we must abandon what is wise and right in our eyes (Pv 3:7). We must deny ourselves, take up our crosses, and follow Jesus alone (Mt 16:24-28). We must submit to the text, to what it means, to what it says, to God’s original intended meaning. Never assuming that we know what it means. Never taking His Word lightly or for granted. Trembling at His word (Isaiah 66).

I’m just a Christian. It is guaranteed that I’m going to stumble in what I say at some point (James 3:2), and so I plan to keep revising, editing, and updating the things that I write (repenting, as I keep going through the Bible). I’m not claiming to be perfect (either in doctrine or practice), and we will not be perfect/sinless during this time on earth; we must be fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Yet, while we are not perfect, it is God’s will that we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18; also 2 Cor 10:15, Eph 2:21, 4:15, Col 2:19, 2 Thss 1:3, 1 Peter 2:2), and that we pursue sanctification (Hebrews 12:14). That we walk worthy of the calling with which He has called us (Eph 4:1-3).

I’m assuming that when you, the reader, are reading these posts, that you are doing so with your Bible open. It is very important that the reader go to those texts that I reference because I’m assuming that you did. This is a Bible-centered, Bible-proclaiming place because it is God-centered. If you want to read what I write, be prepared to think, to think through and meditate over the Scriptures; the Christian faith, the Bible, is not simplistic. God’s Word is deep, theological, and sound. It is a sure, steadfast, and firm foundation (Matthew 7:24-27, Ephesians 2:19-22; Psalm 19:7).

This blog is based upon the Scriptures which teach the goodness, necessity, and clarity of God’s word, and which command fidelity, meditation, and diligence in studying, believing, and doing it: Psalm 12, 19, 119, Proverbs 30:5, John 14:15, Ephesians 6:10-20, 2 Tm 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, James 1, 1 Peter 2, 2 Peter 3:18.

Things that you can expect on this blog: exegesis (drawing the meaning out of the text), exposition (explaining the text), work in the Biblical languages (Hebrew, hopefully one day Aramaic, and Greek), Bible survey (understanding the author, audience, themes, purpose, outline/argument/flow of thought, etc., and a synopsis of each book of the Bible), Biblical theology (understanding how God’s Word functions and flows as a cohesive unit), practical Bibliology (meditations on God’s Word, exhortations, applications of God’s Word), and translations of God’s Word.

Specific false teachings that I reject because they are different-teachings (1 Timothy 1:3, 6:3) to what God has said and revealed in His Word:

Doctrinal/Theological Triage (holding to false unity that compromises on the truth of God’s Word; the lie that sorts doctrines into primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of importance--which has to be sure a word of wisdom in self-made religion [Col 2])
Amillennialism (we are in the kingdom)
Postmillennialism (we bring the kingdom)
Covenantalism (covenant of works, covenant of grace)
Infant baptism (the baptism of babies)
Replacement Theology (the Church has replaced Israel)
Continuationism (believing that spiritual gifts such as prophecy, tongues, and miraculous healings still exist today; the Charismatic movement propagates/believes/holds to false teaching, it is doctrines of demons—1 Timothy 4:1)
Arminianism (Jesus died for everybody, including those who reject Him and on whom He will pour out His wrath, and we can come to God on our own, by the power of our own self-will—we can save ourselves; for one thing, this assumes that there is something good in man, denying what the Bible says that “there is no one who does good, not even one” (Ps 14:3), and it denies John 6:44 which says, “‘No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day’’)
New Testament Priority (the New Testament “reinterprets” the Old Testament)

Specific doctrines that I believe in and am convinced of because of God’s Word (this is not an exhaustive list, and it's not in any order; each point is equally necessary):

The penal, substitutionary, propitiatory atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross for His elect, His burial, and His bodily resurrection from the dead three days later in fulfillment of the feasts of Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits; His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His future return to bring judgment, salvation, and restoration and to establish His kingdom here on this earth which will include the redemption and restoration of the nation of Israel.
The Biblical covenants (Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic/Old, Priestly, Davidic, New)
Biblical dispensationalism (the Church is NOT Israel and has NOT replaced Israel)
The future redemption and restoration of Israel (Deuteronomy 30:1-10, Isaiah 4:2-6, 9:2-7, 42:1-4, 49:1-7, 50:4-11, 52:13-53:12, 60:1-22, Jeremiah 31:27-37, 32:1-33:26, Ezekiel 33-37, Joel, Obadiah, Zechariah 10-14, Galatians 3:15-18. Romans 9-11)
Baptism of the believer by immersion in water in obedience to Christ which is a declaration of what God has done in the believer
Biblical hermeneutics: the literal-grammatical-historical hermeneutic (Scripture’s self-attested hermeneutic)
Premillennialism (Christ will come and establish His physical, literal, 1,000-year kingdom here on this earth, crushing all the nations of the earth under His righteous rule)
Cessationism (certain spiritual gifts such as prophecy, tongues, and healings have ceased according to 1 Corinthians 13)
“Calvinism” (men are completely and thoroughly wicked, Christ died for His specific elect whom He chose from before the foundations of the world, God saves us by His grace through faith in Christ alone, we cannot loose our salvation because God holds us in His hand and nothing will separate us from the love of Christ)
The Clarity/Perspicuity of Scripture (Psalm 119:105, 130; 2 Peter 1:19)
The Sufficiency of Scripture (Isaiah 55:11; 2 Peter 1:3)
The Pretribulational Rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 2:16; 5:9-10)
